Breed standard
The Ridgeback is a powerful, muscular and very active hound, regal, rugged, and unmistakable. A mature Ridgeback is a handsome, solid, and athletic dog with strong endurance and unmatched willpower. They are distinguished with even temperament, devoted and affectionate to their master(s), and reserved with strangers. The most differentiating characteristic of this breed is the ridge on the back, a mark unique to the Ridgeback. Only ridgebacks have a ridge, no other hound nor breed carries this naturally occurring, perfectly tapered stripe of fur that grows in the opposite direction to the rest of their coat.
What to expect from your ridgeback
-

Most ridgebacks are friendly. While it may take them some time, they will take any opportunity to meet and play with other dogs or people.
